The 175th Aviation Company was activated on 1 September 1966 under the Command of Major Roger Lacourse. The 175th was deployed to South Viet Nam arriving at Vinh Long in September 1966. Upon arrival the company immediately began in-country origination and training. The 175th underwent a name change and became the 175th Assault Helicopter Company. The 175th AHC were assigned to the 1st Aviation Brigade's 164th Combat Aviation Group, 13th Combat Aviation Battalion "Shield of the MeKong" and begin operating in the IV Corps Tactical Zone in the western area of the Mekong Delta near the Cambodian Border. The company also provides air support throughout the IV Corps Delta Region. The company's Twenty-Five UH-1 C Helicopters were divided into three flight platoons, Two Lift Platoons each having Eight Helicopters known as the "Outlaws" and One Armed Helicopter Platoons having Eight Gunships known as the "Mavericks". The remaining Helicopter was utilized as the Command and Control Helicopter. The company's Door-Gunners were recruited from the infantrymen of the 25th Infantry Division. The company was supported by 150th Transportation Detachment "Roadrunners" who provided aircraft maintenance and technical support, 28th Signal Detachment (RRA) and the 83rd Medical Detachment provided Medical and Dust-Off Services. The 175th Outlaws were reactivated in May 1972 at Fort Knox, Kentucky, operating there for two years and then deployed to Germany for operations until their deactivation in December 1977.
