213th Assault Support Helicopter Company "Black Cats" - "Cu Chu" and "Phu Loi" - The 213th Aviation Company was converted from assets from previous company that date back to 1941. The company was re-designated as the 213th Aviation Company on 23 March 1966 at Fort Begging, Georgia. The 213th was activated on 1 June 1966 and deployed to the Republic of South Viet Nam arriving late January 1966. The 213th established their base of operation at Cu Chu . The company was assigned to the 1st Aviation Brigade's 12th Combat Aviation Group, 11th Combat Aviation Battalion and re-designated as the 213th Assault Support Helicopter Company flying CH-47 Chinooks Helicopter. The 178th ASHC "Box Cars" provide the 213th in-country orientation and training. The 213th begin their operations 22 February 1967 participating in "Operation Junction City" under the call-sign "Black Cats". In November 1967 the unit relocated north to I Corps Tactical Zone where they re-established their base of operations at Phu Loi. The 213th ASHC was re-assigned to the 1st Aviation Brigade's 16th Combat Aviation Group, "Born In Battle", 212th Combat Aviation Battalion. The 213th served Five Years in Viet Nam and was awarded the Meritorious Unit Citation and Two Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm. The company stood-down 15 February 1972 and returned to America where they were deactivated.
