The OH-6 Helicopter was produced by the Hughes Aircraft Company (McDonnell Douglas) as a single engine light duty helicopter with a four-bladed main rotor designed for use as a Military Scout Helicopter during the Vietnam War to meet the U.S. Army's need for a fast and extremely maneuverable light Observation Helicopter (LOH program) capable of fulfilling various roles; Command and Control, Escort and Attack, Casualty Evacuation and Observation. The OH-6 nicknamed, "Loach", after the acronym "LOH" - Light Observation Helicopter and sometimes called "Cayuse" was quite effective when teamed with the AH-1G Cobra Attack Helicopter as part of what were known as "Pink Teams" or "Hunter/Killer". The "Loach" would find targets by flying low and slow, "trolling" for ground fire, when located the OH-6 would lead in a Cobra to attack. The OH-6 could be armed with the M27 Armament Subsystem, the M134 Six-Barrel 7.62mm "Mini-gun" or the M129 40mm Grenade Launcher on the XM8 Armament Subsystem.
